TiVo and Amazon have been collaborating since last year on the Unbox  download service for movies and television shows. Now, the two companies have made the service simpler for consumers to use by bypassing the PC. TiVo subscribers can now use the remote control and TV to look for content to rent or purchase, and then download selected content directly to the TiVo box. The new service is available to all broadband-connected TiVo Series2 and Series3 subscribers.

To use the new feature, “Buy on TV,” subscribers can either choose movies and TV shows from category listings or make use of TiVo’s Universal Swivel Search to link from one program to others with common elements like program name, actors, or viewer feedback. Both of these methods make it easy to pick and choose among thousands of Unbox titles, TiVo says. TiVo is offering promotional discounts until July 23 to draw attention to the new service.
