Broadband video users can tune in July 27–29 to their own personal view of the San Jose Grand Prix race, choosing from more than 40 broadband video camera feeds available over Internet-enabled PCs and TVs, courtesy of router manufacturer Redback Networks.

The live feeds will be managed by Redback’s SmartEdge multiservice edge routers, and delivered to race fans over a wireless network infrastructure.

Dr. Alan Lippman, Redback’s chief video architect, says this kind of interactive spectatorship represents the future of sports. “Silicon Valley is a great place to try out new technologies and evaluate how they can be used in other sporting events,” he says. “Fans are looking for a personal ‘video-enhanced’ experience that will help them follow their favorite drivers throughout the race – whether the cars are on the track or at a pit stop.”
