PC-based videoconferencing meets conference-room videoconferencing with TANDBERG’s new Movi solution, currently in beta testing but set for commercial launch in 2Q 2007. Normally the two types of videoconferencing occupy separate worlds; Movi allows outside experts – or traveling colleagues – to join a team meeting via the Internet. Employees can also use Movi for entirely PC-based videoconferences.

Movi is a server-based application for the enterprise market, which IT departments manage centrally through the Web. However, calls don’t require IT support. Users can click to initiate video calls on a link from a meeting invite, a permanent link on a corporate intranet, or an address in the Movi directory. All that is required is a webcam, microphone, speakers and a computer with an Internet connection.
