Cable TV provider Cablevision was sued by four Hollywood studios and three major television networks over its plan to provide subscribers with  network-based digital video recording capabilities.

The suit claims that Cablevision's plan would violate copyright law. Cablevision argues that its proposed service would have the same functionality -- storing broadcast television programs and playing them back to watch later -- already provided by legal devices like set-top box DVRs.
